TLDR No specific treatment for postpartum hair loss is proven effective.
The document reviewed the effectiveness of treatments for postpartum alopecia, a condition characterized by diffuse hair shedding occurring 2 to 5 months after childbirth. It analyzed clinical literature from various databases but found that studies on treatments like thyroid supplementation, topical progesterone and estradiol lotions, and oral contraceptives had significant limitations, including small sample sizes and lack of control groups. Non-drug therapies, such as educating patients about hair cycles and providing reassurance, were suggested to reduce anxiety. The conclusion was that no specific treatment had been studied thoroughly enough to be recommended as effective.
