TLDR Antibodies help identify glycoproteins in normal skin and tumor cells.
The study examined 66 benign and malignant skin appendage tumors for glycoprotein expression using monoclonal antibodies GCDFP-15, GU18, B72.3, and VU-1D9. Different staining patterns were observed in normal eccrine and apocrine sweat glands, with no B72.3 staining in eccrine glands. Tumors from sweat glands showed various staining patterns, but eccrine-derived tumors lacked B72.3 immunoreactivity. GUI8 and VU-1D9 stained mature sebocytes and sebaceous carcinomas, while VU-1D9 also labeled hair follicle bulb cells and basaloid cells in trichoepitheliomas and basal cell carcinomas. These antibodies were valuable for studying normal skin appendages and their tumors.
