TLDR Benign epithelial tumors in dogs don't spread or become cancerous.
The document discusses three types of benign epithelial tumors in dogs, commonly referred to as epitheliomas. These include necrotising epitheliomas, intracutaneous keratinising epitheliomas, and trichoepitheliomas. Necrotising epitheliomas, often found in terriers, are located in the subcutis, with 37 cases reported, 26 by the author. They do not metastasize, and true recurrences are doubtful. Intracutaneous keratinising epitheliomas, with 31 cases, extend from the cutis to the subcutis and are not breed-specific. Trichoepitheliomas, with 17 cases, are found in the cutis and subcutis, resembling hair follicles but not forming true hairs. None of these tumors are malignant or metastasize, and they are typically found in dogs over 5 years old. The histogenesis of these tumors is linked to embryonic hair matrix cells or epithelial proliferation in epidermal cysts.
