TLDR ES cell-derived stem cells can help regenerate skin and form gland-like structures.
The study investigated the healing effects of embryonic stem (ES) cell-derived epidermal stem cells on full thickness skin defects in mice. The results showed that the skin defects healed within 2 weeks, with the newly formed skin being thicker than normal. After 4 weeks, the new skin developed structures resembling sweat glands, sebaceous glands, and hair follicles. The study concluded that ES cell-derived epidermal-like stem cells were capable of differentiating into epidermis and gland-like structures, indicating their potential in skin regeneration.
