TLDR A new keratin gene was found in mice, explaining hair growth.
Wojcik et al. discovered a third murine keratin 6 (K6) gene by knocking out the two known K6 genes in mice. This led to the expression of another K6 gene, which explained hair growth in the double knockout mice. This finding created a promising model system for further research.
