Follica
Follica is a privately held, Boston-based company funded by PureTech Ventures using licensed technology from the University of Pennsylvania.
Follica is primarily involved with Wnt-based hair growth, which is an approach that reverts skin back to an embryo-like environment to allow other cells to redifferentiate themselves into hair follicles. Less specifically, the scalp will likely be dermabraded and bathed in a proprietary solution of chemicals that should cause new hairs to form.
Follica still has an indefinite timeline to reach market, and has thus far only shown the procedure as working in animal models, [1] however, trials are currently underway to test the efficacy of some of the basic treatment steps.

- George Cotsarelis, MD
