Aderans Research Institute

Aderans Research Institute

(Redirected from Aderans)

Aderans Research Institute is a biotechnology company focusing on Hair Multiplication. It is the developement arm of two different companies:

  • Aderans Company, Ltd, the world's largest manufacturer of wigs
  • Bosley, the largest hair transplant company in the world.

Aderans is Japanese owned and located in the US. It was established in 2002, quickly acquiring tissue engineering patents from BioAmide, Inc. and forming a strategic partnership with Bosley.

Aderans has been researching Hair Multiplication around 5 years. They had originally expected to reach market and approval by 2007, but are now facing a 2010 US launch date as the earliest possible.

The two US branches are:

  • Philadelphia, focusing on hair follicle molecular biology and cell biology research.
  • Atlanta, where partner company BioAmide and affiliates Georgia Tech and Emory reside. Most of the actual engineering takes place here.

Ken Washenik, Executive VP of Scientific and Medical Development, has been the most vocal in media outlets.

Aderan's Hair Multiplication process is said to take around 3-4 weeks for cell culturing, with "punch biopsy" holes around 4-6mm in diameter. They claim this is sufficient for "a lot of hair".
